HippoFlops is AutumnHippo's own Gotek compatible floppy drive emulator for use with the Amiga's external floppy drive port. It is fully featured, including a large built-in OLED screen, buzzer, rotary encoder, and runs the popular FlashFloppy firmware. The HippoFlops is Open Source Hardware, and is based on the OpenFlops project.

Features:

  • Use in your Amiga's external floppy port, acting as DF1: drive
  • Will boot any program/game that will otherwise boot from a physical DF1: drive (which is not all games!)
  • Large 1.3 inch, 128×64 pixel, 2-line OLED screen
  • Runs the popular FlashFloppy firmware, known from Gotek and OpenFlops
  • Pass-through connector for connecting an actual external floppy drive
  • Rotary encoder for easy menu navigation
  • Built-in piezo/buzzer for drive activity noises

HippoFlops comes as a kit or ready-to-use:

  • Ready-to-use: Fully assembled, flashed, and ready to stick in your Amiga. You only need to add your own USB thumb drive (or buy one from us)
  • Kit: Comes with most components already mounted on the PCB, so you will not have to solder any tiny surface-mount components. Will will need to solder the DB-23 connectors, rotary encoder, OLED screen, as well as mount the board in the enclosure. And, importantly, you will need to flash your HippoFlops with the FlashFloppy firmware yourself. You will need a USB-TTL adapter to do that. Instructions at the project website.
